I need the following:

Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Water Pump
Valve Cover Gaskets

anybody? anybody?

go to  a ford dealership for the valve cover gaskets. they run around $20 each.

Eric94GT

i went to metropolitain ford  for the timing belt and tensioner, it took the dumbasses three weeks to do it. i shouldve had them do the water pump too but i was dumb. it ended up costing me $300 which is a good deal but my dad got them to drop most of the labor charges for it taking so long

naustin
11/12/2001, 02:13 AM
It's gonna cost me $300 to do the Tensioner, Belt, VCG's, waterpump - just in parts.... Unless somebody can sell me a tensioner cheap. Doubt that... Carparts.com wants $160 or something for the tensioner, and like $60 for the belt. Crazy.

naustin
11/12/2001, 02:14 AM
And that's if I do the work myself. (with substantial help of course.)

MN Probe GT
11/12/2001, 02:19 AM
I may be able to help you with the rear valve cover gaskets some time.......more likely to happen when I don't have school. that means you're going to have to buy spacers too.

naustin
11/12/2001, 02:37 AM
I don't know if I want spacers... Convince me they're worth it.

MN Probe GT
11/12/2001, 02:44 AM
um....they're only like $60. um......they keep the intake manifold cooler. Some don't buy into this idea though. They say it just makes the entire engine hotter. But I say that's ok because the intake air will be cooler. If anything, they increase the length of the runners, which is said to increase power. Search for sean morgans (outlaw engineering) website. What are some of the ideas you've heard saying they're not worth it?

naustin
11/12/2001, 02:53 AM
See now, I know you've got them. You didn't say that you gained noticable power from it.

I know the theory behind them, but I've heard that they just don't do anthing. Think about it. The air that comes into your motor is only in the intake manifold for a split second before it goes into the cylinders anyway. I've also heard that it can cause the fuel injectors to spay onto the walls because they are out of position or something to that effect.

Anyway. If they were worth it, you would have been raving about how much faster your car is with them installed.

Even if I did get spacers, it would be pointless without a cold air intake, which I don't even have yet...

MN Probe GT

you also have to understand that I call BS when someone says they can feel 5hp. I don't think you can feel a difference of less than 10-20hp. And yes, I do say I don't feel any difference in speed, even with all the stuff I put on. but a 15.4 is better than a 16.0 I've heard of the injector arguments too, but some say the air pulling in so fast causes it to make the fuel go directly into the cylinders. I dunno......My car runs and idles fine. I know I sound like an old bitch that bought something and spent time installing it so now I defend it, but o well. I still say my car feels about the same speed as when I got it. Even though it's probably a second quicker in the quarter mile. (15.5 stock time is with a good clutch, which I havn't had in a long time. :)) so...uh....yeah....get the valve cover gaskets at ford....they have them the cheapest. :)

rebby
11/12/2001, 09:39 AM
i would also advise for the spacers... even if they don't do anything the cost is low and you will be glad that you did it after pulling the intake manifold off. that job is not one you want to do more than once.

I found a waterpump (new) for $10 and a new distributor cap for $4!

www.mazdasurplus.com

Most of the shit there is for the 2.2L. If You see a cheap timing belt or tensioner for the 2.5L that I missed, let me know... I contacted them already about the waterpump and distributer cap;)

Minimum order $2000 i don't need that many parts

naustin
11/12/2001, 11:13 AM
Minimum order 2000?! :wtf: I didn't see that bullshit.

MN Probe GT

oops.....that sucks.....

naustin

Oh well. Hey, maybe they'll decide to sell me the parts anyway. We'll see if I get an email back.

One of the other suppliers got back to me.

Get this:

Timing belt tensioner
Timing belt
VCG Set
Waterpump

$164.70

Carparts.com wants that just for the tensioner. I think I'm going to call them to make sure these are all *new* parts and then order it up!!

rebby
11/12/2001, 02:48 PM
really??? sweet!!! i should call them up too

MN Probe GT
11/12/2001, 03:54 PM
yeah, that looks like a good deal. I think parts and labor on those at a ford stealership would be well over $1000. Do it yourself (with some help maybe) and save a shitload.

naustin
11/12/2001, 04:39 PM
shit. That price was without the tensioner. I called him and the tensioner is another $120. Still a good price, but damnit....:(

ya still going to go w/it???

naustin
11/12/2001, 05:14 PM
not sure. There is a user on PT offering me a Tensioner and Timing Belt with about 15,000 miles on them for $75.... They say the belt is in perfect condition...I asked for pics.

15,000 mi. belt is better than a 115,000 mi. belt.... ;)

MN Probe GT
11/12/2001, 05:24 PM
uhhh....you do know what happens when the timing belt breaks, right? FUBARed

I don't have the service history on my car. I'm assuming that the timing belt has been changed somewhere in that 115,000, but it might not have been. Which is why i want to do it - and soon....

rebby
11/13/2001, 10:33 AM
is the gt interfearance??? i know on the 4 cyls if you lose a timing belt you can kiss your valves and (possibly) pistons good buy

i'd suggest for a part like a timing belt that you buy new...

I just wanted to praise the benefits of phenolics. Like Kurt said, you're really not going to notice a power gain. What I did notice was the lag after freeway driving no longer occurs. Before installed, it seemed like my car would struggle after getting off the freeway. After, no power loss whatsoever. It's also a cool mod to say you've done!

naustin
11/13/2001, 01:16 PM
Thanks Vdubb.... I'm thinking about it - it'll depend on the cash situation...

AspitFire
11/14/2001, 02:16 AM
nothing happens on the Gt modle when the belt breaks, except for, the car wont run/work until you get it fixed, nothing is dammaged...i still have to get my VC's Phenos, and CV shafts done soon to...anyone wanan have a mini-work on cars meet?? take one intake manifold off at a time, be able to look at the other for vac lines, and other things?? anyone??

MN Probe GT
11/14/2001, 02:20 AM
So why is the GT ok and the 4 banger not ok? the only difference I see is the GT uses cam gears and the 4 banger does not. What is it?

AspitFire
11/14/2001, 03:08 AM
as far as i know both models use cam gears (ie. adjustable cam gears for the 2.0)(look on PT) all i know is that the GT model is non-interferance, and the timing belt breaking wont harm anything on the engine

naustin
11/14/2001, 03:41 AM
I have to find the cash and obtain the parts I need before I start thinking about when I can install them!

no, the v-6 uses gears (one camshaft gear spins the other....the belt does not go over 4 cam gears) on the 4 banger it goes over both gears I'm pretty sure. What does non interferance mean?

Eric94GT
11/14/2001, 11:15 AM
what are you talking aboot here? i havent looked at this one b4

rebby
11/14/2001, 12:05 PM
interfearance means that if the engine is not timed correctly the pistons will hit the valves

the 2.0 IS interfearance so if i lose a t-belt, it's time for major head work as well as new pistons (probably) on the other hand, it you break a t-belt, get a new t-belt...

MN Probe GT
11/14/2001, 01:45 PM
o....I see....makes A LOT more sense now. :) I pretty sure the KL-03 uses dished pistons.....does the 2.0?

klze pistons? you pay for it and we'll watch, this is gonna be funny :D

klze pistons my ass......I want lower compression retard. Obviously I don't have the tools to do this, so I wouldn't be doing it by myself. :p

naustin
11/14/2001, 02:07 PM
I think dished is right....

Could this by why the 93 had torque and horsepower peaks @ different rpms?? They had regular pistons in 93, and went to dished in 94, which lowered the compression, or domed which would have raised it??

dish - lower, dome - raise

naustin

Yeah, but do they in fact have dished pistons....? I'm almost positive they do.

Eric94GT
11/14/2001, 02:28 PM
sure, in a 93. kirk wants lower compression so he doesnt have to use premium fuel :p

a turbo is where exhaust gases come out of the exhaust manifold and spin the turbo charger fins which in turn birce air into the engine causing it to go faster.

a supercharger is basically the same thing except it runs off your accessory belts.

;)

MN Probe GT
11/14/2001, 04:20 PM
I don't get it

I just wanted lower CR to make my car slower......

Eric94GT
11/14/2001, 04:23 PM
oh, so you dont have to worry aboot the road as much and you can try to give yourself head more. get an atx while you're at it

hey i wouldnt knock atx's have you seen Howlett's current slips from the track? his ATX would smoke 98% of probes out there! im not saying i would want an ATX, but i wouldnt knock them considering what can be done with them 13.6 to be exact!

kirk we all know the reason you want lower compression is for turbo!

by the way he is running a little bit of that thing you guys call NAAAASS with a stock TC

MN Probe GT
11/15/2001, 01:27 AM
he'll spend a lot more than I would to hit 13.6 and the atx's are shitty and he's probably on his 14th tranny....lol.....but I do respect that time. but then again....most ATX probes have trouble getting out of the 16's (or 17's)

AspitFire
11/15/2001, 01:41 AM
its his stock tranny that came with the car, just a tranny cooler keeping it together, and when are we gonna start seeing these changes you plan on making????

13.6??? hmm, i'm thinking 11's NA :D

I told you they were dished! :p nanananananananana!!!

BTW.....that piston is FUBARed!!!!!

Eric94GT

yeah, i saw that on Howlett's car, pretty impessive. I wonder how many trannies he has/will be going through
