Any idea why my rear defroster switch sometimes lights up in the dark - and sometimes doesn't. Shorted? Bumped the last time my dash was apart?

When it does light up, it lights up way brigher than the other 4 too...

hmm, sounds like it's time to crack the dash and pull out the multimeter...

if it is the little blue light inside it, those are a pain in the ass to find. i found a couple at junkyards when i needed them, take a few if you go to a junkyard to get them.

It's strange. It either works or it doesn't, and it is more on a weekly basis than anything else. It isn't like it switches every day. It will be out for a few weeks, then come back for a week. Really weird... I think the bulb is fine, i'm just wondering if there is a bad connection in there someplace.

maybe replace the switch.. $65 from ford or FREE from the junkyard :D

That will be the last thing I spend money to fix. The switch has always worked. Even if the light doesn't come on, the defroster works...

If it's intermittent, then the light must be good. It's an LED and they don't randomly blink so... it's a bad connection.

You know how small christmas tree lights work? Where they have two tiny metal prongs on them and they bend and then the bulb pushes into the socket? Anyway, it's kinda sorta like that. If you take it apart you can easily pop the LED out. From there you will see how it works and can probably just bend a little metal piece back into place.

Especially since you're talking about taking it out anyway, nothing to lose. It's what happened to mine, was easy to solve.

Ha! funny, I didn't notice that. Gee, uh thanks!

Well, don't be too happy until it works... Maybe I was smokin crack and was actually working with tree lights, and that's what I remember, was last holiday in the 'hood.

I think the theory is solid, but I'm curious if it's a simple things with the prongs off the LED. Anyways...
