Make sure you have a funnel with a 3 foot hose (it has to be about a quarter inch think (max) or it won't fit in the hole) You can get some at home depot. I would get redline MTL or MT-90. You need 3 or 4 quarts.

As long as we're talking about trannys, what are some basics you need to do to keep it up to shape? Like checking clutch fluids, etc. My manual says you need to get under the car to check the clutch fluid, wtf??

umm...isn't the clutch fluid the same as the brake....or something.....I'm confused about this whole brake thing (and my brakes being fucked up)

yes, use dot 3 brake fluid for your clutch fluid... does that make sense??? :)

So how many actual fluids go into your tranny? Is it 2 (Clutch fluid and mtx tranny fluid)?

Does the brake fluid in the engine bay go to the clutch and the brakes? This is confusing.

How many holes are on the tranny for adding, checking, or draining fluids?

OK....I think I have it figured out. clutch fluid uses the same fluid as the brake fluid (same stuff in the car...not just the same type of stuff, but the same as the brakes use) the clutch fluid is used to operate the clutch and doesn't really go into the tranny. (well....maybe it does, but I'll just say no for now) the tranny fluid is used to lubricate the gears and whatever else is in that confusing thing. There are 3 holes that I know of. One drain plug, check plug and a fill plug. But the fill plug is on the top and impossible to get to, so everyone uses the check plug to fill it. The drain plug is on the bottom (23mm.....that socket size does not exist so u can use a 15/16th) and the check plug is just a little higher and angled a little and it is also 23mm. It is full when it starts pouring out the check plug when level.

Is it a sign that I need to change my tranny fluid when I have to completely or almost stopped to put my car back into 1st gear?

Whats all the hype about that Redline stuff? What else can you buy and how much does the tranny take and how much a quart usually?

Mine does that too. It didn't do that when I got the car, but it does it now. Like the font?

possible reasons for having to stop. 1. clutch master or slave cylinder is on the way out. 2. water in the line bleed the system. 3. syncroziers are going. 4. bent clutch fork(brake fluid does not actualy go into the tranny, slave cylinder is right in the front of the tranny.)

So is this bad? I know that you cant put it into first while at high speeds because it locks you out of it, I get locked out at speeds higher than like 5mph. Should I be concerned?

Geeze racer you sure know a lot about our engines..thats cool though...i wish i had that kind of knowledge

When I got the car there was a noticable lockout for 1st at 20mph. But because I used to hold it there until it would unlock (which ruined it) it doesn't go in first unless I'm at a dead stop now.......:( I don't know what exactly broke, but I'm guessing the syncros suck now.....

I did the same thing here too. It came shitty like that when I bought the car though. If any of you get it checked out, let me knoe what it is and costs to fix. It's not that big of deal though to me, I put it into 2nd a lot anyway when i'm rolling because the first gear on our cars suck ass anyway.

kinda off the topic, but still related...

I have a tranny cooler that I have been meaning to install since early last summer.

Anyone want to help me put it on on Saturday?? There are tons of sites that have instructions on how to do it, but I am reluctant to mess with it by myself.

If you pick redline, you want one of these 2. Some people use a mix of the two.

75W/80W GL-4 MTL MANUAL TRANS LUBE

75W90 GL-4 MT-90 MANUAL TRANS LUBE

BTW......this is the exact description on racesearch.com

I got MT-90

AspitFire

MN Probe GT

e mail redline and ask them. I don't really know. They suggested MT-90 to me.
