Today is a very sad day. Latly my car has kind of been sounding funny. Clicking or ticking like it shouldn't be. And it would also jerk a little bit randomly when it should while I am driving down the road. So I brought it in today to get it looked at and find out what it was. I got some terrible news...He said it was either something with the timing, or a connector rod or something along those lines. Umm, I got the info from the dad, havnt talked to the guy himself, I just know that it is going to be really really expensive which leaves with me a couple of choices...pay for whatever needs to happen, which i cant do cause i get minimum wage and i work part time, find a new engine to swap in, or sell this car and get a new one, but i dont think i will be able to get anyone to pay what i will need to get for it... i really didnt know where to put this thread, or know why i posted it...i just wanted to share my pain with everyone i guess...

happens to everyone with a probe eventually, im on my second. You could sell the car to Mike Hughes, hes always looking for parts cars. Then find a new one and start over. Anyways i feel ya, loosing a first car can be rough, no worries though.

Get a second opinion. From the sounds of it you talked to a mechanic. A mechanic is in the money making business, and some suggest work that isnt necesarry

this is true...but i have gone to this guy before, and was sure that i had a rear valve cover go bad, which should have been like 3xx dollars, and he looked at it and found it was something that is a third the price, i trust this guy...

Hows it running besides the jerk/ticking? Lost power? Hopefully its not a rod. Hope for a faulty timing belt tensioning arm. That could be the thing your mechanic is talking about when he says it has to do with timing. That would explain the ticking, not sure about the jerk, maybe the timing jumped a tooth and causes it to run bad.
Let me guess, does it soud something like this? Listen closely about 11-13 seconds into the film and you should here it well

I'm gonna say its a tbta without hearing it. They are notorious for failing on these cars and are gonna give you clickin/tickin noise. You didnt mention any performance losses and a tbta wont unless it lets the belt slip a tooth. Pray to god its that and not a rod, cuz a tbta is more easily repairable. A tbta job with waterpump and timing belt shoud cost 300-400 if you do it yourself otherwise with labor its gonna skyrocket. Good luck man

If you have the time, that's the best way to do it. You can make a fortune parting out a PGT. otherwise, if you sell it, how much are you looking at for it? Otherwise, if you know how to swap a new engine in, most of the yards in the metro will sell you a motor for 400 or so. That's your best bet, but I dont know how mechanically adept you are.....

I was just asking because some people know a ton about HOW to fix cars, but then can't do it themselves. Seeing as I've never met you, I have no clue..... But swapping in would be a sinch if you had the right tools... only 4-6 hours with 2 people....

lance, let me know if you want me to save my sideskirt for you still, I'm getting the rid of my parts car in the next couple of days here and if you don't want it anymore, I'll let it go with the car.
