Alright, so i know you all are going to laugh at me for asking this, but i have to. Tonight i was getting gas, and i couldn't help, but to notice that right on the gas door there is a big sticker that say Premium recommended, or something like that. Now i know that it will run on regular, but does it really need Premium? I'm just curious, so be gentel...please.:bd:

depends who you talk to really, some people say if youre not running premium itll cause detonation. While others say theyve been running 87 octane from day one without a problem. Really what it comes down to for me is what the price of a gallon is when i fill up, on the cheaper side ill go with the good stuff, but around $3 a gallon ill go with 89 or 87 to save some money. But to answer the question, I dont think it NEEDS premium.

It's not tuned extreme enough to require anyting above 87, unless of course it's a 110 degree day and you're wailin gon it. Otherwise, unless you're running a turbo or s/c, anything above 87 isn needed (Heck, for the 1st month I had my turbo I even ran 87 with no problems...untill I cranked the boso to 16. ow I wont chance it)

If you use 87 the cars computer will make your car slower to save itself.

Sorry but my car sucks with anything less than 91. I put 89 in once cause apparently Iowa doesn't use 91... lol. Anyhow, it had a noticible lack of power and I got really bad MPG that tank (I didn't beat on it, I just drove it like normal, to/from work).

Unless your car is already suffering from detonation, the higher octane will not help.

I'm saying the car will run, but your car will probably be slower and get worse gas mileage.

Well then my next question is, is using a higher rated gas going to save me money, because i get better gas mileage? Or will the cost of the actual gas just out weigh the mileage part? Sorry if it's confusing!

Well here's a comparison:
87 octane gas is $3.00, 91 is 3.15. Figure 14 gallons to fill. $42 for 87, 44.10 for 91. $2.10 difference, so yeah I'd say you'll be saving money. Not a whole lot, but some.
