Well Sometime This Fall I'm Getting The RX7 Painted. I Was Looking Online And Saw Colorshifting Paints And I"m Getting More And More Interested In Them. But Many Problems With That. Mirage Has The "Ice" Colorshift I ADORE! But They Only Sell Them In 8 Oz. Aerosol Spraycans... That'll Be Like 5000$ To Do A Whole Car :-( My Neighbor has A Spray Gun He Said He'd Do My Car For Free Once He Learns How To Paint With It Efficiantly... Good Deal? I Think So But... So The 8 Oz Isn't Going To Work And I Was Looking At The Kameleon (Spelling?) Paints By House Of Kolors, They Have Ice Pearls But You Have To Call Them And Theres A HUGE Shipping Charge because They Only Sell Them Out Of Two States. Then I Went To DuPonts Site (Ew Jeff Gordon) I Like The Way The Colors Sound... But No Pictures So I Don't Know What I'd be Getting. If I Can't Get Ice I'd Like A Red/Blue Scheme Or The Fire Look (red/yellow/Orange) And This Car Looked Beautiful With The Fire Chromalusion By DuPont http://www.cardomain.com/ride/261130 And Thsi Guy Went Insane With Mods But I LIke His Colorshift And The Girls :-) http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/470060 But I Don't Know How It'll Look On My RX7. Anyways, Anyone Know Where Else I Could Get Some Colorshifting Paint From That'll Work In A Spray Gun?

the color shift, or chamelion color is not cheap, basically its a high end paint thats applied with 3 different stages
house of kolor has a TON of different setups but none are cheap, and if you wanna do the entire car, open up your wallet

Yea Money Isn't A Problem. But Do You Think One Gallon Or Two Would Be Able To Do It? MInd You This Is An RX7, Its Like 2 Feet Shorter and Bout Half A Foot Thinner Than The Probe.

Well dude, depends on how many coats of paint you want over your car. When i painted my probe I used a gallon and a half of paint, but I did 5 coats over the whole thing. Also when you use top end paint like that you should do more coats so it lays better, and you make sure you get total coverage, as well as even color, tiger stripes suck ass after doing all the prep work, and actually paint the thing. But you should look more into duPont, as well as PPG paint. They are a lot more friendlier on the wallet, as well as they make some special paints that could give you what you're looking for. Also if your buddy is gonna paint her up, make sure hes got a good place to do it, cause any dust, dirt, anything in a garage can mess up that paint in a heartbeat. I went through school for it, if ya have any other Qs, just ask.

PPG makes a paint line called harlequin. Its chameleon also, and should be cheaper than HoK

PPG is a good paint, just a knock-off. But high quality still.
House of Color sells certain color schemes at Walmart. You can only buy in spray cans, but still...

If I was going to put that kind of money into my car I would have it done by someone who completely knows what they are doing. My buddy paints cars and doesn't just "have a spray gun". He probably has half a dozen each costing $1000 give or take a few hundred. Then theres the prep work that involved....
Just paint it flat black and be done with it.
Rattle-can to be specific.

lol I Just Want Input. I Love Colorshift Tho, I Think Colorshift Is Cheaper Than Getting A Pure Chrome Paint Job. Pure Chrome Is My Other Favorite Color but I've Only See Cars With In In NFSUndergound II, All My Cars Are Chrome From Bumper To Bumper

This isn't the 70's. That stuff went out of style about 20 years ago.

very true indeed, but it is his style and he's very much entitled to do whatever he wants to do to his car, just as long as he doesnt paint it pink with poka dots and then shows up to a meet with his car looking like that:no:
I would take pink polka dots over color changing or chrome any fucking day of the week.

I hate that color shifting paint. I think it looks like ass. Its an `83 rx7 - unless you have completely replaced the drivetrain, the interior is in factory mint condition, and it basically looks like it came out of a time capsule, it isn't worth the money to paint it at all, let alone with that oh, look at me, I'm cool lame ass color shifting paint.
But its no biggie, becuase I've got $5 that says you never get it painted anyway. The best way to tell if somebody is NOT going to do something is when they post on the internet - "hey, i'm going to do this". That's a dead give-away that it's never going to happen.
If you were actually going to do it, you would have posted a picture of the car being stripped and said - "Hey! Look what i'm DOING"...

I do too. And you see it on all sorts of cars.... grand ams, yukons, SSRs, cadillacs.... all of them look equally ugly.

that was a good find:lol:
I think that Napa had color shifting paint that is around 500 a gallon. The paint chips that they had looked like they had quite a few options.
