removing tint, and further tint questions

okay so i got my second ticket for tint last week as some of you saw in the other thread. Now if i get another ticket the car gets towed and i get a misdemeanor the state patrol guy told me. So that leaves me no choice but to take it off. So on to my questions:

1.Has anyone here taken tint off before, if so how did you do and how did it turn out?

2.If i take the tint off my door windows, but leave it on the rear quarters and back glass, is there a way for them to test that? I have only seen the meter that slides over the top of the glass on a door window.

3.Does anyone here have the legal 50% tint, if so how does it look? Cant decide if its even worth getting the legal crap on it.

I have had 50% on my Grand Prix and Escort. It doesnt look that great to be honest, but it looks better than no tint at all. As far as removing it, normally I've heard that hjust a razorblade and some 409 will work, otherwise the shop that put your tint and should ber able to remove it for cheap

I do believe you can have up to 70% tint in your back window ... I hear thers no limit at all or it's 70% so we'll just go with that haha

Taking tint off is a bitch :shrug: If you want to put the least amount of effort, theres a kit you can buy. If you don't want to spend the extra money, a razor works too.

well Dani I think you got it backwards there. 70% would actually be lighter then 50% tint. The lower the percentage the darker the tint, I beleive the % stands for how much light it lets through. And Im positive it is 50% all the way around, including back windows.

Actually i think it's only on the passanger/drivers window. I dont think it matters how dark the back is. I would just tint the 50% on your front windows and leave the back. It's not going to look the best but it will atleast look better than no tint at all. If you have a question about it, just call the court house, and they should be able to tell you right away.:thup:

Yeah the % is VLT or visible light transmission or how much light that gets through the tint. There is some kind of tint removing spray, well it loosens the adhesives on the tint, you could probably get some from a tint place. Also you could try the razor blade thing, and finish it up with some steel wool.

In MN the law for tint is really simple but alot gheyer than most other states. 50% VLT on all windows except for windshield which can't have any tint.

Yeah 50% on all, but normally the cops dont care about the back/rear side windows, they just care about the door windows and the front windsheild. But in yuor case, I bet they WOULD make a deal about the back/side ones

the law is 50 on all windows except windshield on cars only. Trucks and SUV's is 50 on front 2 sides, and as dark as you want in the back.

Every cop I've talked to said they don't give flying crap about the % in the back as long as the sides are with in the law ... but I can see where if the side ones aren't you'd get f&*^ed in the ass either way.

Thanks I searched on PT too. I dont really wanna mess with that and risk screwing up my rear defrost, im having a guy from the 507 board do it for me. Tonight she'll be tintless......Im going to cry.

Speaking of tint, has anyone ever seen the Metro buses with the pictures on the sides. Well, that is a sticker more or less, so kinda like tint, right? Well I can't see why that could possibly be more than 65%, and it looks dark as heck....

Most places here in SD require you to leave the BACK window without NO tint and allow you to put 50% on all side windows. On tribal land, they enforce that no-tint on back window for officer's safety and the person as well to advoid mis-understanding sudden movements in the car. To me, 50% is fine, but anything below that is too dark.

yea well they need new mirrors ... I've had a bus almost take me off the road, I understand they can drive on the shoulder, but when their at a complte stop and then pull right into the lane with a line of cars doing at least 50+ mph ... yea awesome.
