my car has been worrying me lately...

so i had the problem with my ground wire...and fixed that...then that night i cleaned my engine bay out as best i could before i ran out of light..next day i was up, and get in my car to go to school and right away my car starts chuggin' so i get worried and then after a couple seconds im like "oooh great...im only runnin on 5 cylinders" so i pop the hood and check all the wires then i hit one and it started runnin' smooth...and i drove to school. on my way home, it did it again... so i get out, press it back down..but no help, so i check the rest..nothin...and im kinda worried...being i was a block away i kinda cruised home slowly. i got home and was checkin' it all out...and i think i figured it out as one of my plugs misfiring (then again i dont know all that much about cars...so i dunno) so im honestly not all that sure if plugs do that (work..then not work...then work..) at random times. all of today it was good to me. monday i am bringing it in to my mechanic to get that lame belt fixed, and my dad said we'll have him do a FULL tune-up to my car, and being my car needs an oil change..have him do that as well. so that's this week.

next week:
try to fix front end a little
steam-vac all interior
buy my ACE hardware CAI
gut my cat (sorry nick)
hopefully buy foggies :D

and this summer i have a LONG laundry list of things to do as well..

so am i right with my plugs and/or wires?

well i had that problem... it was the CID.. but its not common for the probes... i could be wrong.. see if you got a code that tells you if its the CID...

I would check your spark plug wire. Put it on a different cylinder and see if it does it in that one. If it does you can bet it is a bad wire;)

Well, if itt's there sometimes and not there sometimes, and you haven't changed anything - you can count on it coming back. Probably at the worst possible time, too.

Keep looking. Just be glad you don't have to rush it.

You didn't happen to use any liquid (water, simple green, etc.) that could have gotten inside your distributor cap? The symptoms that you have described can be disty related. Even a very small amount of liquid can give your rotor the inability to provide spark to your wires. The liquid inside the cap will slowly evaporate which is why I believe your problem has cured itself. Taking off the cap and using a hair dryer to dry it out will work if this ever happens again. Its the first thing I'd do to my car if it started to stumble.

I'll bet you good money that your valve cover gasket is leaking and that the plug wells have filled up. This will fuck up the connection between the plug and the wire = missfire.

If it isn't that, then the wire itself is probably bad.

thats why when i powerwash my engine.. i cover the intake and disty... and i try not to get close to the sparkplugs bc of high pressure will penatrate the rubber and shoot it clean off...

I meant that the plug wells would be full of oil, not water.

i did cover up my disty, i always do

and i always do my best to stay away from the plug wires, but my car is still runnin' fine and i checked everything out last night and it all seems good

Pull the wires out though, especially the back ones. See if there is still any water, or worse yet - oil in those holes. You'll know if the wire comes out all covered in crap.

I had a problem like that in my 240 not too long ago. It came and went but eventually got worse and worse. It turned out to be an injector wire loose from its connector, i just pushed it back in and it fixed it. Maybe that's what you did when you were messing with it.

I had the same symptoms with my car when I washed out the engine. The problem was the disty got wet and it was not firing correctly. Dried it off and was all good.

They should be easy because they're extremely small. So you can Usually get your whole hand around them. But I had trouble once. I got some sandpaper and gripped it with that. I got it off that way. Now I don't put them on as hard anymore.

mine just always has shyt on it that makes it hard to grip..i might try to sandpaper thingy...

and btw: Dave R. said at the meet that gutting the cat would do as much as a test pipe

You know... Fram filters have the grit on the filter and that makes it SUPER easy!! Hardly even need a wrench!

unfortunatly this is far from the truth. im sad to say i was dumb enough to gut my cat last fall and the sound/performance gains were non-existant. but thank goodness for test pipes, i love mine.

if you think about it, the exaust gas is allowed to expand when it enters the hollow cat, and then has to contract again in order to escape, so you can see why this is worthless. and im sure nick will tell you "youre killing the environment for nothing", and i would agree.
