My car was running poorly for a few days. It sounded like it was missing a cylinder. I thought that the rear Valve Cover Gasket was gone and oil was getting into the spark plug hole, but that wasn't the case. When I took out the spark plug wires I noticed that one had been arcing badly. So just for the sake of experiment I put some epoxy around the part of the wire that was arcing on to the cylinder head to try and surpress the spark. After that failed to work like I thought it would I then preceeded to wrap it with duct tape. I thought that the spark would not travel through the tape and go to the plug where it was supposed to, and I could drive untill my plug wires come in. Just before I put that plug wire in I started it up with the wire unpluged from the distributor cap, to see if it seemed like that cylinder had been missing. I sure sounded like it. When I put the wire back on the car wouldn't start. It had no spark. I THINK that the spark from the unpluged wire arced from the distributor to the head and burnt out the distributor. Any thoughts on this? How can I go about testing this??? THANKS

hmm, that's not the usual disty problems we're used to hearing about....
it sounds like you may have fried your disty. if you're not getting a spark i'm not sure what else you could other than replace the disty and see what happens. hopefully somebody else will have a better suggestion for ya.

I agree with curt. Replace the disty/plug wires and see what you get. Chances are the disty would have need to be replaced pretty soon anyway.

I got a Remanufactured distributor in January... I brought it back to the place I bought it from and he said they'd exchange it for another Reman (I didn't think that they would) ... So all is well. I have NGK wires gcoming tomorrow so it should be all cleared up...

I just replaced the wires, disty cap, plugs, and rotor in my 626 (same 2.5 V6 as a PGT) that had a similar problem and now the car runs smooth as college girl in Cancun. I found all those parts new for a total of $209.00 for semi-good stuff.

ya, I had to replace my disty four times in the past 16 months. I don't have to worry about that now. i'm running an MSD 6A with a blaster ss coil. now the only problem that i need to fix with that is I still don't have a tach. I tried the tach adpter 8910 EIS and it still didn't work. :bs: thats what I think about that.
