Hi @ all,

Greetings from Germany...
Probes are seldom seen vehicles here...
I own a PGT, built in 95. Want to install a premium system (Head unit, eq and amp), have all the parts, but no wiring. Can anyone help me? It would be important for me to know which pin of a unit must be connected to another pin on another unit... so I could make an own wiring. Or is there someone who has a wiring?
I know, that there are better aftermarket radios which installation is easier.. but the head unit matches so nice, and nobody around here owns it.

Thanks and regards!
Alex

alex,
welcome to mnpoc from across the globe. all the wiring for the premium stereo should already be in the car. start pulling panels and look. the factory amp goes just behind the panel on the passenger side rear seat. good luck!

Thanks for your help... and for your welcome!
The problem is: Ford Germany imported from 93-97 15.000 Probes (2.0 l4, 2.5 v6). Because of the laws in Germany the cars were modified in Bremerhaven, as is Vehicle Immobilisation system, turnlights are clear, Taillights has amber turnlights, sidemarkers were cut off, other audio system with NO AMP in the car, but only in the radio. There are some guys in Germany wants to modifie there car back to US-Standard. US-Taillights are about 250 Dollars here. But they are not really legal.
The 95 models got a new wiring. Thatīs why I asked... I will shurely find no wiring for the eq or the amp...
Will have a look at the linked site now. Have a nice day!

the standard style of wiring in the probe really isn't that great.

It runs wires from the head unit (NOT amplified) to the amp which is behind the passenger side rear speaker. If you have this amp, then that's where you would install it. But most people prefer that the head unit gives the speakers to power because an external amp just creates more wires, unless you're going for supreme audio (which the factory equipment is not)

oh, in that case... ask some guys in the US (maybe some of us on MNPOC) to buy up the required harnesses next time we are at a salvage yard. once you have the harnesses the rest is a cakewalk. shipping from MN to Germany isn't that expensive so the cost should be minimal. do that for US spec tails as well. salvage yards around here will let them go for under $100/each.

Myrgatroyd

that would be great... now, actually I donīt need the tails, but the harnesses. Do I have to open a new thread?
I thought about to ask somebody in the US, but unfortunatly I donīt know anybody there....
Could I persuade anybody?

rebby

you could easily persuade me but i seldom go to any yards. i do live near a few yards but they have very few probes. open a thread in the fs/wanted section. list exactly what you need and what it's worth to ya ($ US, unfortuatly salvage yards won't just give those harnesses away  ), shipping would be extra , air mail is reasonably priced for reasonably sized items.

i can tell you how to replace the front and back speakers, if u need to.

@ rebby

thank you, good idea, I will do it. Must think and must make a list...

@ oxide
thanks also. The problem are the speakers. Which ones do you prefer?

Splat

it would depend on what you have available there...

you need to listen and see what u like for yourself.

i would like to get couple of infinitie myself, but for now i got 4 jensens in my car, and it sound nice.

I have polk audio speakers. I like them very much, and they were reasonably priced at www.crutchfield.com

Whatever you do, don't cut the harness that leads to the factory 6 disc changer. Although you may think you don't need it, if you cut it, your cruise control will no longer function. (i found out the hard way. :()

Are you installing the factory original deck, eq and Amp?

rebby

the cruise won't work? why not?

Thanks for your tips... they help a lot. Well, I can get a lot of speakers, mostly japanese brands or infinity, jensen is seldom.
A problem is, that some dimensions like 5x7 are hard to get. But I will try.
@naustin: Aye, thatīs what Iīm trying to do.
In Germany the probe camre without a disc-changer as far as I am informated.

rebby

as far as speakers go i strongly suggest infinity. even their low end speakers are pretty nice. you will need 6.5"'s for the doors and 4"x6"'s for the back...

hello there, nice to see you join the board. If you REALLY REALLY want U.S. Tails, i can get you some for around $100 or trade for your Euro Tails.

If you are interested in U.S. Spec Probe parts, i have a junk yard 2 miles from my house with about 5-6 2nd Gen probes. If you need any parts, just give me a PM and ill see what i can do. All i ask is that you pay shipping costs, and cost of part.

Also, if you come by a set of your Euro-Spec Front Turn signals for sale over there, let me know and i will buy them from you.

Again welcome to the board!

funny how everybody here want euro parts and everybody there wants US parts.

Thanks again, all of you! Fine community you got here! Itīs a joy, really.
@rebby: Well, everybody wants a personalized car. US-Tails in the USA are not very individual, arenīt they? grin

About the speakers: The built-in-speakers are really poor made. I will look around and listen, thanks for your advice. Inifinity is well known.
The choice for 4x6 is very small, is an unusual measure. Most of us works with adapters.

Oxide

u can fit 6.5" in the back. if u are crazy enough

I heard that the Aus-spec tail lights are different too.

I've been to Auspoc (Australia) but I can't find any info on them... ;(

don't the aussie probes have a rear fog light? or are those the probes in europe? i can't remember.

europe.

Instead of two rear reverse lights, they have one fog light and where the other white light usually is, it's red like the rest of the brake lights.

rebby

yeah, i knew where the fog was. just wasn't sure where it was used. europe is what i thought once i thought about it though.

first modells of the 2nd gen had tails looked like the older us-tails, the turning light is at the place where the amricans have their stoplight. they had no rear fog light, this was mounted down at the bumping bar. newer modells has the rear fog light (as descripted), the turning light is amber and at the edges.

Not to nit-pick, but I thought (OK< I'm pretty sure) the rear speakers are under the 5x7 category... the Polk's I put into my car were...

I put 6.5's in the front doors and 6x8s in the back....

4x6 is really small, those definitely aren't it. I had 4x6 in the front doors of my old Jetta... (not that that's related) The 5x7 / 6x8 size tends to get grouped together a lot. I don't know what size they are exactly, but Nick's right too. If you look up in a catalog, you'll usually see 3-1/2, 4, 4x6, 5-1/4, 6-1/2, 6-1/2"S" (6-3/4), 5x7 & 6x8 (grouped together, I think you just pick which hole pattern you need), and 6x9. Then you get into 8, 10, 12, etc for subs.

If in doubt, take out the old one and bring it to the store to double check the new ones are the right size.

Anyway you look at it, aftermarket speakers are a huge improvement over stock, especially old stock ones. As far as which ones to get, you really need to take a listen to them and see what YOU like best. Some tend to have emphasis on highs, lows, mids, etc. It sucks because anything will still sound different once it gets in the car, but listening beforehand will at least get you a good idea. Bring in some music you like, have them crank it up, and see what speakers make it sound best. Then go for them!

Oxide

actually, my 1st gen had 4x6 in the back.... so they are definatley it. :D

check for yourself. it could be 6.5

is there any way to squeeze a 6X9 in there?

MN Probe GT
06/08/2003, 06:51 PM
haha....so funny...you guys are trying to figure out what size the rear speakers are.

Well there were 2-3 different sizes for the rear. So that's why there's usually some confusion. I forgot what most probes have (I think they're 6x8) But mine were definetely 5.25" There was a plastic adapter to fit the oval hole.

Welcome to our site. The 1st gens had 5.25 and 4x6 or 5.25, the 2nd gen has 5.25(enough room for 6.5) and 5x7-6x8 in the rear. The 5x7 and 6x8 spkr. is the same size spkr. you just use different mounting holes that come on the spkr.
