View Full Version : Busy Week For My Car

monday- swapped cat to test pipe with rpgt93, bought and put on aftermarket pedals

tuesday- took out my ENTIRE interior (seats, console, etc) steam-vac'd the carpet and seats and totally cleaned everything, cleaned the engine bay more, and painted the little "FORD" logo on the heads white, re-tourqued head bolts

wednesday- bought kumho ecsta tires from rpgt93, went and got them mounted and balanced, came home and completely overhauled my rims so they look all shiny, did the 3rd brake light mod with the GT logo

so thats the week. now sometime in the next or two i will be buying a cone air filter and doing a REAL CAI .. and probably towards the end of july ill be getting a front strut bar :D

so there's the update on my car :)

oh and also today i did the wiring thing so i can have my foggies on without having to have my lights on :D thanks to kirk's tutorial on his website that is :)

the 3rd brake light looks awesome .. the test pipe sounds so sweet (except i need new gaskets cuz i think im leakin' a lil') so my car is finally comin around, now i just can't wait to get my intake/filter then strut bar :D any idea's on what i should do after that?

<add>quick question: i see cone filters like k&n and mushroom filters like hks ... do they get the same performance, or at least almost the same performance. what would you recommend .. keep in mind cone is like $50 and mushroom is $25

<add2>so, my task list: get a new passenger tail light, get air filter, make intake out of 3" abs pipe, get front upper strut bar

Yeah it's pretty much idiot proof. To be honest, I took it from another site, but I have TONS of pictures and I rewrote it all myself. It was somewhat challenging for me because I had never done anything electrical before. It was the first "mod" I ever did.

sooooo... what should i do next?

im getting my CAI most likely on monday, and so far im the highest bidder on ebay for a passenger tail light (since mine has a hole in it) .. but then what?

here are some options so far: clear corners, FSTB, reverse gauges...

i want/need it so be under $30-40 preferable $30 .. so dont be like "buy NAWWWWWWWWZ" or "get some headers and exhaust" im talking small mods here, i got my test pipe and am getting my intake... so then what

get a turbo. Maybe you can get some advice after dani installs one on her car.

matt

if you want performance then save your money and get a rstb, the front is worthless. but if you want to dress it up a little, then id go for the cc's, the stockers are hideous.

I think clear corners for the GT/SE are kinda odd. since most of the lense is clear already. Unless you have a base then I would suggest taking those ugly ass orange things off!!!

tru, but mine are old and look kinda cruddy inside.. moisture builds up and crap ... so im not sure what im gonna do yet..

the rear strut bar works wonders, so if your looking for a cheap performance upgrade, id go with that. hatchbacks are prone to flex, and the rear strut towers are key areas that needs strenth.

there ya have it.. $20 +$12SH .. = $32, should be here in a few days, then me and rpgt93 will both install ours on our respective cars

next: to get my CAI .. hopefully tomorrow or thursday
in a few weeks: another mod.. Corners, Gaugues, FSTB ... not sure yet  throw out some <$40 ideas

yup :D came today

today was a fun day ... me and rpgt93 put a new valve cover gasket on the front ... well.. sorta. and its running good. soon we're gonna put new ones on the intake manifold and rear valve cover. the rear needs it too, one of the plug wells you could hear the oil squishing when we took out the wire... not good :( and since we'll have the manifold off we might as well do that too. so yay $$$ out the door

how do i flush the radiator  ... someone explain it to me in full plz

Oertdogg

Its easy. Get a pan and some radiator flush, pull the plug and pop in a hose. After its all gone, dump in some new fluid.

btw, the drain plug is located under the valance on the passenger side. its a little knob, with a short tube hanging down.

Yeah even I found it!

It's at the bottom passenger side of the radiator. LIKE MY PIC POINTS OUT.

You may have to remove those little flaps on the bottom on the splash guard or remove the passenger wheel well splash gaurd to get a good view of it. Once you find it, you'll see how easy it is. You just twist this plastic knob and out comes fluid. Just like a tap. You don't want to put your mouth under it though.

one time I was chaning my fog lights and I pulled out he bulb and all the nasty water in the wiring harness sleeve poured into my mouth. So gross....

well, from just driving tonite around town, my engine definately runs cooler, instead of the meter being around the R-M area in "NORMAL" its on the O :D also, i was thinking maybe i could get a 160 degree thermostat in my car  only like $5 and doesn't seem too hard to install, what do u guys think?

JunickJr8
07/18/2003, 02:35 PM
well, today i got my RSTB and put it in, fairly clean installation, looks really nice, i left the trunk shelf thingy out and also drive around with the back seats down :D i can notice a difference already, my car doesn't seem to pull around corners fast, it turns around them ;)
