People on PT are always listing Pheno spacers on their mods, Even saying they are one of the best mods under $100 bucks. What the hell are they? A spacer in the intake system somewhere or what?

a quarter inch peice of phenolic material that insulates the intake manifold from the engine. I've heard they work pretty good.

i was thinking of getting them when I was replacing my vc gaskets but I have heard bad things about them too. such as there being a harsh idle. I have also heard that because of the lift, the injectors shoot onto the side of the spacers instead of in the cylinders (probably what causes the harsh idle). I could get my intake manifold off and on again pretty quick now to do this if I wanted, but i'm still hesitant about it.

I've got a set, I'll try to remember to bring them down tomorrow. I was going to put them on someday, like when I replaced the timing belt, water bump, and pulled the cams to do the friction gear. But I got lazy and got a different car :) I'll try to remember to bring them tomorrow to show you what they look like. In fact, I'd sell them for pretty cheap - the new owner won't likely care to put them on.

I think most people with idle problems were victims of not correctly reinstalling all the vacuum lines.

id say go for it. as long as you have the intake off, replace the rear vc gasket too. and maybe clean off the rear vc with some degreaser and get as much as you can. i busted a bolt too when I was doing my vc gaskets but I have two laying around here because I asked a couple people if they could send me some. They are the longer center ones though. This is definately something not to do at the meet because of how much time it takes. It took me 8 hours just to take the intake manifold off. The rest from there was a piece of cake. Watch out for the bolt holding the intake down on the back center of the manifold.
