what should the tires on our cars be inflated to for regular road use? Or does it all matter on what tires you have?

it is tire dependant... look @ your sidewalls...

my side walls say max pressure 44 psi. Does this mean to inflate it to 44 or should I go lower? Is it best to fill the tires when they are warm or cool?

I would suggest around 35-40. low pressure (25-30) will give you better launches but shitty gas mileage. Higher (44....scary....) will give you great gas milage but bad traction and wheel hop.

by wheel hop, do you mean the wheels half grip half dont and when you try to do a burnout, your whole car shakes and bounces up and down?? (That happens to me)

Yes, this happens jsut abut everytime I lauch. I've got to cut it back some. I've heard wheel hop is very bad for the transmission.

Stock tire pressures are like 32 front and 26 rear. Supposedly the engineers figured out what was best...
I never really put over 35 in mine, it made a sound over bumps kind of like a basketball bouncing that had too much air in it ("boing").
Pretty much never put what it says on the sidewall. That's maximum air pressure, not what is recommended or would work best for you.
You can also check tire wear a little. If you typically wear the outer edge, raise the pressure a little. If the center wears and not the edges, lower the psi a little.
