I just eye-balled it level with the bottom of the lowest white reverse light cut-out. :shy: I never thought to make a template....
I guess I could go on ebay and advertise a "template" and then send people $0.97 worth of contact paper and a $0.50 ruler...

i thought it bounces from your licence plate? reflective are for if you break down out on the highway at nite and oncomin ppl comin and they can see you so they dont hit you and end up like MNSKATE and CAM. i was aware that laser was to bounce off licence plates.

You are right Jay...it does, but the reflectors in the tails are the ideal refration for a laser light, because it is light in the UV spectrum....I don't know everything about it, just what I have reasearched to fight my ticket.
oh.. you could be right.. all i know is the laser is portable and has a red DOT in the view and they told us to aim at the licence plate.... FRONT or BACK it works.. maybe it picks up all the reflection it can get to get MORE accurate speed. all i care it gotta be tuned and it works. im not all into science about how it works anyways.. but you could be right shrep.

/\ hmmm, so maybe my idea of a chrome plated car would be a bad idea...
uh.. i dont think chrome will distract a laser... maybe it will.. i dunno.. im still baffled about how a motorcycle gets picked up for speedin. i havent stopped a motorcycle for speedin ever since i started.. but alot of exhibition drivin though on those.

laser will reflect off anything if it's close enough. But when it gets to be a few hundred feet away it needs something highly reflective and tail lights and license plates work well.

I say just cover your licence plate with diamond dust, that way any sort of light refecting off of it with bounce off in random directions. Woot!

I was thinking about doing a James Bond style plate that automatically flips over backwards when I exceed 80mph. :D

supposedly the best thing to do is paint your car flat black on flat spots, and gloss black on the round spots, and remove any chrome from the front, have flip up lights, no front plate and a low car.
Laser targets from front:
#1: License Plate
#2: Headlight
#3: Fog lights/Turn signal reflectors
#4: Chrome grille
#5: Windshield (Questionable reliability at a distance)
When I got my ticket it was a bright summer morning so the headlights were down, I had no front plate (got a ticket for that a month later,) Probe turn signal reflectors are waaaay on the side and impossible to aim at, and my foggies are tiny(2").
So I'm taking it to court and gonna fight it and in the meantime I'm learning a lot about the system and laser defense.

yea that's the hardest way to win a speeding ticket case. doesn't laser have judicial review meaning that you pretty much can't argue that it wasn't working?
btw having your headlights ON actually reduces the working range for laser. This doens't apply for the probe though since when the headlights are off they are hidden. But for normal style headlights having them on makes it harder for laser to work.

NO! There is no Judicial review for laser in MN...in fact the only states with Jusicial review are NJ and MS if I'm not mistaken.
Besides, even if there were, all that means is that the state does not have to pay for and fly in an expert to testify to the validity of the readings...which would make the reading admissable.
All I have to do is prove beyond a "reasonable doubt" that the reading was inaccurate...and that takes case law...which I have found several hundred pages worth, of cases where higher courts have determined the readings inadmissable due to one fact or another....
The funny thing is, even if the state hires an expert, it's not going to do any good...the state's witness is likely going to testify that he got the reading by targeting my license plate....my car had no license plate at the time and I have a Guilty Plea on record to prove it.....case dismissed.
***EDIT***
Nick....when do the "Whiskey Plates" come off?

I thought it was a year from the infraction = August... But when I called, they said it was a year from when I got my licence reinstated = end of January... SO, hopefully this month. Just as long as it is before spring is all I care about. :D
