awesome! wait, no front plate. is it illegal in this state? no? ive heard mixed opinions.. congrats!

Its not exactly illegal but the cops will probably target you more because of it....thats what my uncle said, hes a state trooper Congrats man!!!
Not be edit[arGumentative], but I've dealt with two seperate tickets for no front plate, so it is most deffinetely illegal in MN.
However it was one of the laws Jesse was considering overturning, but he removed the law requiring motorcycle helmets.

i got one fix it ticket for no front plate. that guy was just being an asshole though.
kansas and one other state allows ONE plate. pretty much the rest of them require front and back plate on at all times.
I was curious so I checked. Apparently there are 18 states that don't require 2 plates. I wish I lived in one of them. =(
oh.. okay i guess there are more than two that i was aware of...

first...congrats man! fo reelz!
second, I just recently dealt woth a ticket for no front plate... MN requires both, and the cop does not have to give you a fix-it ticket...however if you get the ticket and just put the plate on and take it to the hearing office it will likely get dropped...just tell them that the brackett had broken and that you had not been able to replace it yet.
otherwise....for Nick...I say leave it off man...it's one of the most effective targets for Laser...and you don't need that.
i've only had my rear plate on my car since i bought the car, thats over a year and a half now, and all i've got is a warning. granted these country cops might be more lenient than up in the cities or even down in katp, guess i'm just lucky?
/\ yeah all i got was a warnin back in high school when i .. accidently hit a phesant and it came off.. a state trooper on thanksgivin day gave me a warnin and i had 30 days to get new plates. thats all.

I don't have any way to put plates on the front of my car...
i have heard that puttin it in the windshield is good enuf.. but eventually a state tooper whos havin a bad day will make ya do something about it.. i personally dont care as long as i can see it has a valid tag on it. if i see it from rear. fine.. if i see it from front, fine.. but if theres NONE and NO dealershit plates. im gonna do something about it.
heather: you can put it on where you put a new dealershit tag in your window.. or you can find a good place and tie it with wires between your front bumper to the radiator. like maybe a A/C coolant line that runs across the inside of your front bumper... some do that around here with aftermarket bumpers.. just tie it something so its there.

Ben makes a cool aluminum bracket for cheap, I have one on both of my probes and splat just got one for his.
The mount up super easy and locate the plate in a different location than stock, giving it a bit more of a cutom look.

puting the plate on the dashboard i a safety concern if you ask me... if you ever do get grief for only have one plate, they will tell you to drill holes in the bumper. that's what they told me when i got stopped.

well the state troopers do say... " there are license plate kits. GET ONE."
i dont say anything. i mean.. whats the difference when you get a BRAND new car with a tag in the window? its not an view obstruction unless you mount it right in the CENTER of the windshield like some have done. those i pick on. but as far as the far passenger side.. i dont bother them. i let the state trooper make that call. mount them right between the bumper to the frame of the front car.. after i get my aftermarket bumper,, thats prolly where i'll put it. im not drillin no holes...

I really have the feeling that if I had a plate in that position it wouldn't matter because of how low my car is...I have to bend over to look in there...
hehe
But how hard is it to put on, how much do you charge your homies?
probespeed

it is super easy to put on all you do is put 3 - 1/4" holes in the bottom of the bumper and bolt it up. They are $15 each
heatherautumn
01/13/2004, 08:25 PM
I drill the holes then? What's $15, the plate thingy? I'm sooooooooo confused.

i wouldn't worry about it... it's hard (emotionally) to drill a hole in a car for such a stupid reason.. :(
naustin
01/14/2004, 01:34 PM
I used self tapping screws and zipped them right in without using a bracket at all.... :(
probespeed
01/16/2004, 12:37 PM
you can't even see the holes if you take the bracket off as they are on the underside of your car ;)
