I went to target, but they didn't have any crappy amps. So I went to....yup....you guessed it....wally world. And after searching for a while, I found this 2x40 watt PEAK amp. I don't know if I would be able to make that into 80 watts PEAK mono, but it does sound weak enough. It does have RCA inputs so it'll work. I know this amp will work fine, but my question is, is this too little or too much for the factory sub? I thought that factory sub was something like 50 watts RMS? In that case wouldn't I need like a 100 watt amp? I almost bought it, but I thought I would consult you guys first. It was only $30. I really don't think running it with one channel at 40 watts PEAK will be good at all considering that that's about 20 watts RMS.......

sure give it a go... if you blow the factory sub what are you out??? it's a 6.5" right??? i have 2 of them from my doors... or are they different???

subs are different than normal speakers. And 6.5" subs are somewhat rare, making them very overpriced.....I wasn't worried about blowing the sub. I know for a fact this amp couldn't do that......my worry is will it be enough? How do 'bridge' it to mono? I've heard that so many times, but I don't know how it's done. Or can only some amps do it? Because if that's the case, then I doubt this one can. Because it's a pile of shit. It actually looks kind of pretty, but it's a POS.

i realize that subs are different from regular speakers... i just meant is the factory one that different??? i'm sure it's not a high quality sub...

well.....I wouldn't want to replace it with a normal speaker......although it wouldn't be too bad because my deck has a LPF. But normal speakers arn't really meant to produce sounds below 80hz or 120hz.

oh no he didnt!!
let me explain what distortion is.
this is a sound or frequency that is distructive to audio equipment, especially speakers.
now you can take a 1000 watt sub and run only 1 watt of distorted power into it and boom it will surely blow
and on the flip side
you can take a 1 watt speaker and run 1000 wats of ultra clean power into it and it will not blow (not right away)
what distortion does to a speaker is it creates a very irradic pulse of current thru a voice coil whick in turn creats hot spots and after so mouch of that it melts. see inside a speaker you have a col of wire that is coated with a very smooth plastic like coating, as the wire that makes the coil heats up the plastis will melt and burn and stink then slow up the movement of the cone and eventually sieze usually that is from the wire also melting too and comming unwound.
now as I said above about putting 1000 watts into a 1 watt speaker (dont try this at home)
this has to be in the right frequency too if your speaker is a 5 1/4 " mid and you run full range into it you'll make the speaker move in a way that its not designed to and boom
also if you run too low of a frequency into it it will over extend and boom again ....
I could go on and on into all of this but I wont cuz surely I would take up all of our server space . If you want to know more pm me or look it up.
