ok.. im working on a 94-95 probe gt...
problem: car wont start
we tried spark plugs and wires... new battery
now it cranks, but doesnt wanna turn over
any ideas?
disty cap and rotor? coil? is it even getting spark?
If it won't turn over it's either the battery, or you may have some engine problems. Since you said you put a new battery in it, what cca is it, and is it actually brand new, never used?
#1. When was the last time this car ran, and under what conditions?
#2. Take the alternator belt off and spin the alt. Any problems other than that you're pretty screwed, because if a piston is seized...well you're not going to be doing anything about that when it's -400 degrees.

brand spankin new... 520CCA's just installed today.. last time it ran was sometime last week we will check the alternator and distributor tomorrow then...
Ok, 520 should be decent, but the battery could have been drained somehow before you bought it, so I'd hook up some jumper cables to a car or truck with a stong battery and try that. Also, what weight oil is he using? If hes got 1030 in there that might have something to do with it. The distributer will have nothing to do with an engine that wont turn over/turns slow, so skip that. But what I meant about the alternator, just check to see if it's seized. It's not a very common thing, but if it were to happen, the symptoms would be just like those that you described.

well.. it cranks...
tell your buddy to hold onto one of the spark plug wires when you crank it to find out if you have spark.
If you do you're probably dealing with a fuel issue
Oh yea this is ben.

Engine Basics.
A engine needs 3 things in order to run.
1. Air -- Air filter
2. Fuel -- Fuel pump, fuel filter
3. Spark -- Spark plug wires, spark plugs, disty or ignition
And they need to happen at the right time.
First check for spark, then check for fuel.
If it has both of them, you are either looking at a timing issue which could be due to a few sensors or the way the computer is running off them, or a mechanical failure of the engine.

well.. finally figured out what it was.. it turned out to be the air flow sensor that was bad... i found this out by taking it out the air filter element and letting it run... then that died.. then i took the cover off and had just the tube there with the air flow sensor sitting on the side.. and that worked.. so i replaced it.. with a cheap $50 one from atlas... nice huh? well thats about it... thanks for your ideas

Glad you got it figgered out...that's one of the things I would have probably only figgered out by accident...sorry I didn't think of it.
