Yup...picked Lee up on the way and we went to the shop to meet Ben. When all was finished Ben grilled up some steaks...which rocked! Thanks again Ben for all your help and the grub. :bd:

We checked everything that seemed to be related to this stupid code 04 that I'm getting and everything seems to be working fine...except the way the car runs...

I believe Ben is going to check Mitchell On Demand and maybe the Ford Service Bulletins...

If anyone has access to Mazda Service Bulletins or any other information that might help us to solve this issue...

PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE

post and let me know.

At this point...I don't care what it takes to fix it...I just want to find out what it is that I need to fix/replace.

i can talk to my buddy, he has the computer to hook the car up and see if you are getting anything back? if not i know a dealer here that will hook your car up for $20 and run some tests to see what they can/can't find!

Shrep...go to CarTalk.com and sign up. When you put in your car info, they update you on recalls/service bulletins/anything special like that. And you can view everything that's already been announced. It's a great tool.

AND HOW COME I NEVER F*IN GET INVITED TO ANY OF THESE THINGS?????? YOU ALL CAN KISS MY ASS!

Well...I guess it depends on which computer it is...If all it does is pull codes, then it would be pointless, cause I know what the code is...

What's really strange is that there is no mention of this code in either the Haynes' or Chiltons', Jay had once looked something up thru AutoZone, but what it said was basically worthless without a diagram to go with it. It referred to specific pin numbers and the pins are not numbered that way in the manuals.

Some diagnostic computers will not only tell you what code is being thrown, but will walk you through a dianostic process to troubleshoot and find the actual issue. These are really handy but I have not heard of anyone around here that has one like that. Maybe you could check with that guy you mentioned and find out if his does that.

It was a spur of the moment thing Heather

Heather...I wasn't invited either so don't feel so bad...

Nobody was invited. I needed to fix (or rather try to fix) my car, and asked ben If I could come out, he said yes, and Lee said he'd go with to show me how to get there.

I missed your post heather. I will try that.

Well...I did a little looking around...

I found a site that labled the code as:

NE1 Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensor or circuit.

The only difference here is the NE1 part. This is referring to another crankshaft sensor, located in the disty. However, it looks as tho if that fails, it won't start. 94's have them and only a couple 93's.

Ben-do you think it's possible that the parts we took out of the new disty were for a 93 that did not have a NE1 sensor and that my car is one of the rare 93's that were made with them? I may attempt to swap the other piece back in, since we found out that that disty was likely still good in the first place, and if I have to do the HEI mod because of a faulty ignitor in the other disty, then so be it.

My other thought here is....I know that I am getting O2 sensor codes, and if they are not functioning properly, it can cause them to not go into closed loop and can effect performance and economy. Is there a chance that the O2's being bad could cause it to run the way it is?

This is much easier now that you have seen first-hand what it runs like.

***I know that most of this post is directed to Ben, and would probably be better off in IM's but I wanted to post it in case other's had ideas they wanted to add.

The O2's could cause it to not go into closed loop and run like crap and get crappy fuel milage if both of them are bad. They will make the car run very rich.

I'd give the disty thing a shot, you have nothing to loose  There is a very good possibility that your ideas could be true. I'd do the HEI mod anyway:shrug: I'm going to just so I don't have to think about the ignitor;)

yea...I've been looking into how to do it with the msd box...I'm not sure but I think I've got it figured out.

Just wondering if you ever figured it out? I kinda had the same problem and had to replace the wire for the crankshaft sensor. That only lasted a couple of months till the sensor finally gave out and had to replace the sensor near the crank.

Well...I think I may have solved a lot of the problem by re-cleaning the contact on the sensor....but I will know more after I get the new headers on, cause I will be converting to new single wire O2 sensors at that time.

As far as the HEI module with an MSD box, I haven't tried my theory yet, but I'm pretty sure it's right. Electricly it makes sense.
