Hey there, I've been workin' on my sisters 97 Probe GT (2.5 V6 - 5 speed) and it's not getting any spark, it's got fuel, it cranks, the cam's are turning (timing belt replaced about 5k - 10k miles ago) and it started out being somewhat intermitant, it'd crank a whole bunch, then let it rest a bit then it'd fire and run, now it doesn't even do that, you can crank it all day long if you wanted to, no spark at all... any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

Sounds like the usual distributor problem. Strange though because I didn't think it really happened on the newer ones.

yup, I've seen that one in EP, I don't have any pic's of my sisters car, but it's a Black GT, with the factory wing, soneone left a mnpoc card on the windshield a couple years ago when I was at HTC with the car.

her Ex-Hubby's 95 PGT is doing the same thing, I won't have access to an OBDII code reader till tuesday at the earliest, hopefully I can get all the info then, but I too was suspecting the dizzy was my problem, I changed the cap/rotor and still no spark (I was hoping it'd work)

Have the coded checked with an OBDII scanner. I bet you it is the crankshaft position sensor. 96-97 (OBDII) cars don't have the backup (cam sensor) that would be used in case the crank sensor malfunction.

I just did a search (titles only) for "crankshaft position sensor." There are quite a few hits ... I'm almost sure that this is what the problem is.

Search Results (http://forums.probetalk.com/search.php?searchid=90405)

Thread for Crankshaft Position Sensor 2 (ckp2) Description, Removal, Install Diagram (http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701070667&highlight=crankshaft+position+sensor)

Page for Crankshaft Position (CKP2) Sensor 2 replacement (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kahmeal/cps.html)

www.autopartsgiant.com has three different brands for replacement sensor all under $50.

Hope helps this fixes the problem.

ODBII SUCK because you can't just read them w/ a piece of wire! like the ODBI :(

I would be willing to bet that the problem is the Ignitor.

The newer OBDII cars don't have the ignitor problem ;) I'm with Luke, Crank Sensor
