Well it's about time for me to replace the timing belt in my GT (62000) and I was wondering what a good price is for that kind of job. I called Morrie's Mazda (almost always helpfull and friendly) and they said about $400 and up to $550 if I have them do the water pump and other belts while they're at it. They're the only ones I've called so far.

Does anyone have any shops they've had good experiances with around here? Also, does anyone reccomend (or not reccomend) having the water pump put in while this is being done? The only reason I had them quote me that way was because I once had a Honda Prelude and they said I should replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt to save on labor for when the water pump went out. Sounded good to me at the time, but I didn't really know if they were just trying to screw me over.

Any advice would be appreciated. :help:

try a couple of your local service ctrs prefrebly a privatly owned one they usually charge less per hr and thus will be cheaper.

Stay away from Metropolitan "Mark of the Devil" Ford and Southview Chevy (Yes Southview works on other cars besides GM)

yes, stay away from metropolitan ford. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Thanks for the warning, I was going to check them out since I only work a few miles from there. What kind of problems did you have with them?

The second one is the best.

BTW curt, I just used the search for the first time, and let me be the first (or possibly the second) to say it kicks ass.

i brought my car the metropolitn ford for the timing belt and they kept ordering the wrong parts. i gave them a week to do it since i was out of town. when i got back it wasn't done and they took another week. it took them two weeks to replace the timing belt on my car!!!! at least i know that it was kept inside the whole time. (it was on a lift for the entire time)

That is REALLY sad!! I can't believe they had that much trouble getting a few parts. I couldn't last more than a few days without my car... I'd go insane! It's way too hard to live in the sticks and not have a car!! I'm hoping to get this done in a day or two at most.
